WHAT IS CROWDFUNDING?
Crowdfunding is defined as the "collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations." * In charitable organizations, crowdfunding is generally used to build targeted, viral campaigns that raise awareness and fundraise for a specific cause.
Crowdfunding is not a new idea. Startups, venture capitalists, political campaigns and artists, just to name a few, have long used crowdfunding to build and grow networks, generate buzz and, ultimately, raise money to support their businesses or projects. More and more, charitable organizations are using this proven strategy to build creative, flexible and cost effective fundraising and friendraising campaigns that not only leverage existing networks, but create new ones.
